Teachers

Guido

Guido Plüschke
born in Hamburg in 1968 is much in demand as a bodhran teacher. He is teaching all kind of people in Germany and Europe since 1996. He also wrote his thesis about the historical development of the bodhran.
2008 he was placed 3rd at the World Bodhrán Championships in Milltown/Kerry Ireland. He is the first non-Irish to get into the finale and actually win a trophy.
Guido also works a studio musician, apart from his own bands Celtic Cowboys and Lighthouse Lads. In his studio work he recorded in international and national projects of artists like Dessie Kelliher, Garifin, Pipeline, An Tor, Falk-Andreas Eckhardt, UKW Band and Lecker Sachen. He played with the following artists: Gerry O´Connor (Skylark), Brendan Power (River Dance), Sessions From The Hearth, Maeve Donnelly (Moving Cloud), Harriet Bartlett, Allan McDonald, Damien Mullane, Dessie Kelliher, Déirín Dé, Ian Smith, Stephen Campbell, Siobhán Kennedy and Jens Kommnick.

Rolf Wagels

Rolf Wagels
He started playing bodhrán in 1993 and was rated among the best bodhrán players of continental europe. He teaches all over Germany, is a member of the highly praised trad irish bands Cara, DeReelium and Steampacket. He has played in Germany with different german and irish bands as guest or studio musician (Joe Burke & Anne Conroy, Kevin Crawford, More Maids, Templehouse Céilí Band and An Tor among others). With Cara he also toured in the US in 2007 and 2008, he will be touring again in 2009. This tour will also include workshops and big Festivals like the Milwaukee Irish Fest and Kansas City Irish fest. In Ireland he is well respected as a bodhran player by people like Kevin Crawford (Lunasa), Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh (Altan), John Joe Kelly (Flook), Meabh O'Hare & Conor Byrne or fiddler Stephen Campbell. He weas honoured to be part of the TG4 documentary about bodhrán maker Semaus O'Kane and in 2007 he was invited to the Royal Northern College in Manchester to teach and present the bodhrán in a lecture.
In June 2005 he was the first non-irish teacher at the renowned Bodhrán Summerschool "Craiceann" on Inis Oirr (Aran Islands) and he is invited to come back ever since.

The Classes
Classes are provided for all levels, from beginner to the well advanced player. After a short introduction teaching the playing technique will be the main focus, but we will also talk about structures and accompanying patterns in traditional irish music. Music samples will show the different rhythms in traditional irish music and a wide variety of styles is taught. Instruments to lend will be provided free of charge!

Entertainment
The BodhránWeekends are a meeting place for bodhrán players of all levels. Apart from qualified lessons you will also have the chance to test and buy accessories and bodhrans by lots of different makers.

A lecture will be given on Firday night about an interesting bodhran subject. The Concert on Saturday nightwill be a special treat: One of Germany's leading Irish Trad bands: The More Maids! Session after the concert!


Prices
Book early to get cheap tickets!
Early bird special (until 20.12.2009) is 200€, normal price (20.12.2009-01.02.2010) 210€ and late booking (from 01.02.2010) is 230€. This includes lodging and food (breakfast, lunch, coffee break, dinner, no drinks), the classes and the entertainment. Payment is transferred to the account specified during registration online. For non-german participants money can be paid at the event. Accomodation is provided in double rooms (preferable for couples) and in up to 5-bed dormitories. We will try to provide the rooms wanted but we cannot give a guarantee. Please bring sheets.

Registration
Please use our registration form. Please let us know your level and if you will need to borrow an instrument. Usually a place is only guaranteed if you transfer 120 € to the account specified in your welcome mail. If you have very high transfer costs exceptions can be made for people living outside of Germany. Please specify in the comment field at the registration form.
Terms: Full refund if cancelled until one month before the workshop (22nd of September 2009). After that, we keep a 40€ fee and refund the rest. If there is waiting list, and a pupil from the waiting list can jump in, all your money will be refunded.
